June 27th 2016 Newsletter – Cedar Green Monday Ladies Golf

It was great to see so many ladies participate in our ninth Monday Ladies Golf Night this season. We had a total of 114 participants of which 13 were new golfers to our Ladies Night.

This evening we played a 2 person scramble format therefore the prize vouchers were awarded to the twosomes with the 6 lowest gross scores. Our theme this week is “Canada Day Celebration”. In keeping with our theme we asked you to dress in red & white. Prizes were awarded to the lady whose attire best represented the spirit of Canada Day.

We voted as a group by cheering for the person deemed worthy of the prize for “Best Dressed Canadian Patriot” and the clear winner was Beth Dillabough. She was awarded a prize package including a $25 gift card for Zacks. Please enjoy some of the pictures from some of the ladies who dressed for the occasion.

Several golfers have asked how the pro shop calculates the net scores for the golfers who are awarded vouchers for the 4 weekly Low Net Scores prizes. Primarily, the reason we give prizes for low net scores is to provide golfers of various abilities an opportunity to win a prize. Every week the pro shop selects 3 different holes which they will use for the calculation of the net scores. These 3 holes are then identified on an excel spreadsheet and a formula is used to create a handicap which is deducted from your gross score, resulting in a much lower net score.

Below you will find an example of how the formula is used, if the pro shop selects holes # 1, 4 & 7

Score Card Totals
Holes 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Par 5 4 3 4 3 4 4 4 4 35
Golfer’s score 9 6 4 5 3 5 6 5 6 49
Shots over par on hidden holes 4 1 2 7 shots over par
Multiply 7 shots over par by 3 (holes) = total shots 21 over par  Subtract 21 (handicap) from gross score of 49 = 28 net score

(Please keep in mind that the above formula is used during weeks we play or own game and award prizes for Low net scores. This week the format is a 2 person scramble so we are awarding 6 prizes for low gross scores rather than 2 low gross and 4 low net scores which are normally awarded during when we play our own individual game)

We continue to sell raffle tickets for a one night stay at the Elliot Lake Hampton Inn and two rounds of golf with cart at the Stone Ridge Golf Course.  Tickets are $2 for one ticket or $5 for 3 tickets, and the draw will be held on July 27th at our Pink Night, where all proceeds raised from the raffle and the cake auction will be given to “Angels In Pink”.

On July 4th all the players who join us at the 6:00 pm shotgun start will be given a free sleeve of golf balls courtesy of Sam Yawney and Pro Shot Liquidators.  As well, the local Molsons representative will join us in the clubhouse to provide you samples of “Molson 67” beer.

Next week we will be playing on the back nine with any overflow assigned on designated holes on the front.  You can book your starting hole on the Sign-up Sheet or by calling the pro shop after 8:00 am on Tuesday morning at 705-560-1090.
