July 24th 2017 Newsletter – Cedar Green Monday Ladies Golf Day

What a great evening celebration for our third annual Angels in Pink fundraiser. This week we had a sea of ladies dressed in PINK. A total of 99 participants came out for our 14th Ladies Golf Day at Cedar Green of which 4 were new golfers joining us for the first time this season. We hope this was a good experience for you all and that you will continue golfing on Monday nights at Cedar Green.

Tonight we played a new game format called a “Shamble”. Like in a scramble, all members of a team (usually four) tee off and the best ball of the four tee shots is selected. All players move their balls to the spot of the best ball. From this point, the hole is played out at stroke play, with all members of the team playing their own ball into the hole and recording their individual scores. It appears this format help several golfers improve their scores.

As many of you may know, for the past few years the Cedar Green Ladies Night Golf has supported the Angels in Pink in their effort to raise money for diagnostic equipment for the Northern Cancer Treatment Centre in Sudbury. Once again we have focused our efforts on this initiative by sell raffle tickets for a one night stay at the Hampton Inn and a round of golf for two with cart at Stone Ridge Golf Club in Elliot Lake (valued at over $280) and hosting our annual cake auction.

This Monday is a special evening, as the Cedar Green Ladies’ committees are taking this opportunity to present Annette Cressy of Angels in Pink a total of $1515.00.

This money was raised for our annual fundraising event through several initiatives started 4 weeks ago.

  1. The raffle tickets sold for a one night stay at the Elliot Lake Hampton Inn and two rounds of golf with cart at the Stone Ridge Golf Course donated by Elliot Lake Retirement Living https://www.retireelliotlake.com/ generated $605.00 in sales.
  2. Our cake auction held on July 6th raised $565.00. (including personal donations of $20 each from Carole Giroux, Paulette Carriere and Kim Donaldson)
  3. Donation of $145.00 raised by the Monte Vista Ladies Golf Committee at their Wine & Cheese event.
  4. GolfSudbury donated $200.00 which was added to our fundraising events.

The contributions provided by all our Golf Sudbury partners were truly appreciated. We thank you all for helping us provide this generous donation which go towards a 4th Navigation Probe used during the Lymph Node portion of Breast Cancer surgery, for early detection of breast cancer, melanoma, some lymphoma cancers and reduces lymph node swelling during these procedures. Angels in Pink have raised funds for the purchase of Ion Torrent Analyzer in 2013, the Angels in Pink Patient Van, the Vacuum-Assisted Biopsy System in 2012 and MRI Breast Coil Table in 2011.

In keeping with our Angels in Pink theme night, we encouraged all our participants to don their PINK attire.  Due to the huge number of ladies who took on this challenge we awarded a prize to our two best dress Ladies in Pink.  Three of our regular golfers truly took this challenge seriously and our three finalists were Sherry Frend, Maria Gorski, and Linda Collison.

We voted as a group by cheering for the two ladies deemed worthy of the 2 prizes for “Best Dressed in Pink” and we determined that this year’s winners were Sherri Frend and Maria Gorski. The first prize, a $50 gift certificate donated by our sponsor “What to Wear” was awarded to Sherri Frend and the 2nd prize a $25 gift card donated by our sponsor Zacks Fashions located in the New Sudbury Shopping Centre was awarded to Maria Gorski.

In keeping with health related topics, this evening we had Dawn Condon from Shine Om Yoga demonstrating some useful exercises to help us cool down after our Monday night golf game. Dawn is a personal trainer, fitness instructor, lifestyle coach, and yoga teacher with her studio located at 907 Lorne St. Sudbury (second floor). This evening we distributed passes for 1 week FREE yoga sessions with Dawn to the ladies who joined us in the clubhouse and participated in our post golf stretches with Dawn.

We held our draw for this evening’s fundraiser raffle had Mary Croone as the one night stay at the Elliot Lake Hampton Inn and two rounds of golf with cart at the Stone Ridge Golf Course.

Next Monday, July 31st is Martini Night and we will be offering a discounted price on various speciality martinis.  We will be playing our game with free lifts out of the sand.

In an effort expedite registration and alleviate some of the congestion in the pro shop between 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm, Rob Mininni has set up an online website where guests ONLY can pre-pay their green fees, cart fees and prizes fees one week in advance.
