Last Monday, the Cedar Green Ladies’ Night Committee presented Angels in Pink with a cheque of $1,515.00 for their fundraising efforts from this past golf season. All the money was raised by Cedar Green’s Ladies’ Night through various initiatives including a raffle, a cake auction, and donations from the Monte Vista Ladies’ Night and GolfSudbury.
Cedar Green’s Ladies’ Night has been supporting Angels in Pink for the past eight years by donating money to the cause. The charity was originally chosen by the previous committee after multiple ladies who participate in Ladies’ night were battling breast cancer. Year after year the committees, new and old, have dedicated time towards fundraising for a cause near to many of these women’s hearts.
Angels in Pink is a group of volunteers in Sudbury who focus on raising money for the Northern Ontario Cancer Foundations Breast Cancer Equipment Fund. The initiative focuses on bringing the best early detection equipment for breast cancer in Sudbury. Angels in Pink was founded in 2012 by Annette Cressy, a two-time breast cancer survivor. Annette is one of our Ladies’ Night faithful’s, as she can regularly be found golfing at Cedar Green on Mondays. She is an active part of the Sudbury community with her efforts to change the way breast cancer is detected in Sudbury. Angels in Pink has raised funds for the purchase of Ion Torrent Analyzer in 2013, the Angels in Pink Patient Van, the Vacuum-Assisted Biopsy System in 2012, and MRI Breast Coil Table in 2011.
To fundraise for this great cause, the Cedar Green Ladies’ Night sold raffle tickets for a one-night stay at the Hampton Inn and a round of golf for two with cart at Stone Ridge Golf Club in Elliot Lake, where a total of $605.00 was made. They also held a cake auction at the beginning of July, where various members and businesses donated cakes to be auctioned. With this initiative, an additional $565.00 was raised to be put towards the grand total for Angels in Pink. Additionally, a donation from Monte Vista’s Ladies’ Night Committee of $145.00, which they made from their wine & cheese night was added. Finally, a $200 donation from GolfSudbury was added to round out the fantastic initiative put on by our amazing Cedar Green Ladies’ Night Committee.
Angels in Pink will use these funds to go towards a 4th Navigation Probe used during the Lymph Node portion of Breast Cancer surgery, for early detection of breast cancer, melanoma, some lymphoma cancers and reduces lymph node swelling during these procedures.
Thank you to our wonderful Cedar Green Ladies’ Night Committee as well as all of our Ladies’ Night golfers who made it possible!
